Nintendo has released a new 7-minute Super Mario Odyssey gameplay video during its Nintendo Direct livestream yesterday. The gameplay video features a first look at several new environments.
In Super Mario Odyssey Mario has to keep Princess Peach from Bowser's claws, who want to marry the princess. To do this, Mario has to travel through a number of different locations, including New Donk City, a copy of the non-fictional city of New York.
The game features typical movement mechanics, such as wall jumping, diving and long jumping, as well a new mechanic related to Mario's cap. The cap comes alive, can be used as a frisbee to grab items, but also to get hard-to-reach areas.
The game is the first Super Mario franchise title that will not feature the iconic "game over" screen that was included in previous entries.
Instead of the default "game over" screen players will simply see their currency decrease by ten every time they die. Once players are out of currency the same screen will appear, but the counter will not decrease.
Along with the new gameplay video Nintendo has also announced a Nintendo Switch bundle that features both the console and the game at a slightly reduced price. The Joy-Con controllers included in the bundle are colored in red. A handheld carrying pouch is also included.
Super Mario Odyssey launches on October 27, 2017, for Nintendo Switch.
