Turtle Rock Studios has announced that it will stop development of Evolve Stage 2. The game is the free-to-play rebrand of the original Evolve game.
In the announcement the studio states that it had "huge aspirations for Evolve, and while we got to spend five and a half awesome years on planet Shear with a ragtag group of Planet Tamers and fearsome Monsters, it still doesn't feel like enough".
"We were hungry for more but unfortunately today is the last day that Turtle Rock Studios can work on Evolve." the statement continues.
Back in July the game developer announced that Evolve would continue as free-to-play following stagnated sales. The game got rebranded as Evolve Stage 2 and frequent updates were announced.
While the game received various updates that introduced new content as well as bugfixes, interest for the game did not come back. As a result Turtle Rock Studios is now forced to stop further development.
In closing the studio notes that "There's a lot that we really wish we could have done, especially taking Stage 2 to consoles, but it looks like that's just not meant to be."
Evolve first launched on February 15th 2015 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The free-to-play version is only available on the PC.
